Birthday Number Five
Water everywhere. Slip-and-slide, sprinklers, water balloons, spray bottles… Add individual pizzas that the boys got to top themselves, carrot cake, and ice cream, and you’ve got yourself a party.

(with self-portrait…) It was Touch-A-Truck day in Louisville, where they had 40-50 trucks of all varieties, parked and doors open. They really liked the paramedic van, the scraper, and the street sweeper. The finale was getting to put out a “fire” in the windows of a plywood house with a real firehose.
He had a lot of questions for me this time — why is that guy wearing long black socks? (the catcher, protective shin guards) Who is that guy swinging his bat in the circle? (the next batter up in the on deck circle) Who is that guy in the black and grey? (umpire) Is that another umpire next to that white square over there? (yep) Why is the guy on the big TV not moving? (he’s down there batting, but that’s just his picture on the jumbotron) Why does the guy throwing stand on that hill? (the pitcher’s mound, he gets to be 10 inches higher than the batter so he can really whip it downward) On and on, it was lots of fun.
One month already! She’s begun interacting and smiling at those around her — it’s quite magical.

Nice composition, great location shot, but what goofy faces…

Quick Theodore anecdote: He’s looking at me strangely, moving his tongue around in his mouth, and says, “I’ve got water in my mouth!” Yes, I say, it’s saliva. “It’s like water, and it’s like bubbles! It’s bubble water.”
